[19.01.2022] January 17th, 2022, 13:00h to 15:00h (MEZ Berlin) Yuan Dao Study Society (Hong Kong; responsible: Ms. Christine Lai Tin Chi), Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology (Cambridge; responsible: Dominic White OP, PhD) and the Institut M.-Dominique Chenu Berlin hold an academic webinar about “Bridges between the Secular and the Religious”. The two our meeting focused on philosophical, theological and social perspectives of the theme. Three members of IMDC were invited to give a paper.
European Union is a value-based community. However, European societies are undergoing processes of transformations, which in turn affect the justification of their common foundation of values (Felix Geyer ISch, Dipl.-Theol., IMDC: “Europe’s Values in Transition”). Against the background of these philosophically and ethically significant developments, it will be discussed what churches and theology can contribute to build bridges between secular and religious realities. (Prof. Dr. Ulrich Engel OP, IMDC: “Church and World in Dialogue [Gaudium et spes]”). For this purpose, the Pastoral Constitution of the Second Vatican Council is being referred to in a systematic-theological perspective. From a socio-political perspective, the topic will be illustrated by the example of migrant workers in Europe (Prof. Dr. Thomas Eggensperger OP, IMDC: “Problems of Migrant Worker in European Union”).
Yuan Dao Study Society is an association of priests and the laity accredited to the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong aiming at fostering the exchange of intercultural and interfaith knowledge and ideas through local and international seminars and conferences like Christianity and the Chinese Society; Catholicism and Localization of Dialogue and Responsibility.
